Dr. Susan Little was hired as the Citizen Scholars Executive Director is 2021. Dr. Little earned a Doctorate in Education Leadership from Western Carolina University and degrees from Clemson University, University of South Carolina, and Converse College. For over three decades, she has served the students of South Carolina in a wide variety of capacities. She is an experienced teacher, school-level administrator, district-level administrator, and educational leader. Dr. Little believes that every student, regardless of race, wealth, or status, has the right to learn and deserves the support of a caring adult to help attain their future dreams. “If children are not the center of everything we do, we need to reassess our values,” says Dr. Little.

Amy Vernon has worked with Citizen Scholars since 2001. In those 18 years, she has ensured Scholar and program success. She monitors Scholar progress throughout high school and college. Currently she leads the remaining Legacy Model Scholars, manages the Scholars enrolled in college, and supervises the Alumni Association. “Citizen Scholars is more than an organization–it’s my heart. I’ve formed long-lasting relationships that I’ll treasure forever.”

Terra has served Citizen Scholars since 2017. She designs curricula for and manages the College and Career Ready Scholars. Terra is a Citizen Scholars alumna. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Wofford College in 2012. She earned a Master of Science Degree in Youth Development and Leadership from Clemson University in 2015. “I believe in Citizen Scholars because I am a Citizen Scholar. The program and my mentors changed my life for the better.”
